4 Ways Bail Can Be Posted in Louisiana
After your bail amount is set the next step is to figure out how you want to pay it. In Louisiana, you can do it in 4 different ways.
1. Commercial Bond
The most common type of bail, you will pay Netterville Bail Bonds a fee of 12% of your total bail amount. This rate is mandated by law. The Louisiana Courts may also charge you a fee of $25. Keep in mind that you will not get the 12% back. Instead, this will go to your bail bondsman and as a premium for your bail contract. Also, should the charges be dropped, the 12% remains with the bail company.
2. Cash Bond
This is the simplest way to post bail yet the most experience. Through this, you have to pay the entire amount in cash. Upon the conclusion of your court case and you have completed everything needed by the courts, the cash will then be refunded to you. You will pay the entire amount of the bail in cash. A loved one or someone you trust should bring the money via cash or cashier’s check. The money will be held until the the case is closed.
3. Property Bond
You may use your property as a “collateral” to post bail. A lien will be placed on the property equivalent to the bond amount. Usually, this takes longer compared to the other options as we will need proof that you have enough property equity to cover the amount of the bond. A judge is also needed to approve the proper as an adequate payment for the bail bond. Just like with the cash bond, the money will not be returned to you until the case is over.
4. Personal Surety
Ideal for first-time offenders in non-violent cases, a friend or a family member can vouch for you. This person will make all the court appearances, hence, should you fail to attend any of your court hearings, the person you signed up liable on your behalf will have to pay for the whole bail amount.
